David Bailey Furniture Systems has recently completed a large-scale fitted furniture installation at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth in collaboration with Carillion plc.
The redevelopment project involved the construction of new state-of-the-art facilities to focus acute hospital services on site at Queen Alexandra Hospital to meet modern standards, including the provision of 1,072 inpatient beds, 116 day case beds, 20 main operating theatres, 2,236 car parking stations and a number of other specialist medical units.
David Bailey Furniture Systems supplied and installed £700,000 of fitted furniture from its Healthline range in the clinical areas and pantries, including durable base and wall storage cupboards, easy-clean worktops and adjustable shelving. A cool and fresh colour scheme was chosen for the base and wall storage units, combining china blue doors and white worktops.
An additional £300,000 of bespoke reception desks was also supplied for the reception and waiting room areas. This included the installation of 101 stylish nursing stations, offering a range of curved and angular reception counters.
The redevelopment project was delivered as part of the Government’s Private Finance Initiative (PFI).

Queen Alexandra Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital form Portsmouth Hospital NHS Trust.
The redevelopment project at Queen Alexandra Hospital was completed in partnership with The Hospital Company, a consortium of Carillion plc and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
The project was initiated to deliver an excellent standard of healthcare more efficiently and to enhance the provision for training and research. The majority of the Trust’s acute services are now provided by Queen Alexandra Hospital.
