In a project valued at around £53,000, David Bailey Furniture Systems has manufactured, supplied and installed laboratory furniture to the University of Wales Institute.
The hardwearing and attractive Healthline laboratory furniture, comprising floor-mounted and wall-hung units, worktop and shelving, has been fitted within the university's highly respected Science Research Investment Fund (SRIF) research laboratories.
The base and wall carcasses were constructed from 18mm white MFC (melamine-faced chipboard), which is rigid dowelled to guarantee sturdy and long lasting units. All exposed edges are finished in melamine for a smooth, hygienic and easily cleanable finish.
Base units were raised from the floor with special metal supports, and worktops were cantilevered from the wall, making their surfaces more easily accessible to laboratory staff. All the base units were delivered with a solid softwood plinth finished in black (other options are available to special order).
The cupboard doors were hung on high quality durable metal hinges, and drawers were finished in white enamel using a metal box system that guarantees smooth operation.
David Bailey can incorporate many safety features into its furniture, including recessed and 'D' handles, and cupboard doors that open completely back on themselves, allowing them to 'give' if someone runs into them.
The contractor for the University of Wales Institute project was Cardiff-based Edward Design (Construction) Ltd, and the architect was Care Design, also of Cardiff.
