David Bailey Furniture breaks into prison sector with new contracts in Lewes, Ashford and Peterborough Prisons

David Bailey Furniture Systems, leading manufacturer and supplier of specialist fitted furniture to the healthcare and education market, recently completed two new contracts in Lewes Prison and Ashford Prison, with a third contract in Peterborough Prison in progress.

At Lewes Prison, the contract to supply and fit a range of specialist fitted furniture throughout the prison’s health centres was awarded to David Bailey by architects, The Carl Fisher Partnership Ltd.

Wall-hung and suspended-base units from the David Bailey Healthline range were incorporated in each of the health centres. The units selected were a neutral shade.

Roger Stacey, site manager for Crispin & Borst Construction, the main contractors for the project, commented: “David Bailey Furniture Systems provided the perfect solution for the prison’s three health centres. The product was both first class quality and competitively priced.”

Built in 1853, Lewes is a Victorian Grade II listed 19th century prison with a total capacity of 527 inmates. This installation was part of the Government’s recent £1m spend on improving the health centres at the prison.

At the other end of the spectrum, Ashford Prison is a new 450-place prison in Middlesex, where David Bailey Furniture Systems was again specified to supply a range of fitted units from its Healthline range. All these units incorporated locks for added security. Mark Hillson of M J Hillson Ltd, a subcontractor for Ashford Prison, said: “We were very happy with the furniture supplied by David Bailey. The requirement for Ashford Prison was quite specialised, and David Bailey provided furniture to our exact specification.”

David Bailey Furniture Systems has truly become synonymous with quality, craftsmanship and competitive pricing. This has most recently been endorsed by winning yet another contract to supply its specialised furniture to Peterborough Prison.
