Legislation, such as Part III of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and the revised British Standard BS8300, all point to the need for design to be more inclusive.

Therefore, when designing the counter, provision should be made to incorporate sections for people to access from both standing and seated positions.

BS8300 provides invaluable advice on dimensions for the counters – in particular the lower section, which would be accessed by wheelchair users or people who are seated.
